Palace of Westminster 150 years Stamps

A set of stamps and first day cover pack for Royal Mail commemorating 150 years since the completion of the rebuilt Palace of Westminster in the aftermath of the damaging fire of 1834.

The miniature sheet includes four of the grandest and most historic interiors in the Palace. The presentation pack uses this concept and celebrates the ornate architecture and decoration found throughout.

Ornamental illustrations were taken directly from things found in the palace, such as wallpapers and floor tiles. The franking mark design is the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock face.

The green and red colour palette represent the two chambers in the palace – the Commons and the Lords. Caslon was chosen because it was a typeface popular at the time of the rebuilding of the palace.
